13 HP CHIPPER
Electric-Starting
1. Move the Choke control (Figure 5 on page 19) to the CHOKE position (to the RUN position if the
engine is already warm).
2. Move the Throttle to the FAST position (Figure 5 on page 19).
3. Turn the Key (Figure 5 on page 19) to the ON position and then to the START position until the
engine starts, then release. The key will snap back to the ON position and the engine will continue
to run.
4. As the engine warms up, slowly adjust the Choke to the Run position. Wait until the engine runs
smoothly before each Choke adjustment. For maximum performance, operate the engine with the
Throttle in the FAST position and the CHOKE in RUN position.
Manual-Starting
1. Push the ON-OFF rocker switch to the ON position (Figure 5 on page 19).
2. Move the Choke control (Figure 5 on page 19) to the CHOKE position (to the RUN position if the
engine is already warm).
3. Move the Throttle to the FAST position (Figure 5 on page 19).
4. Grasp the recoil starter handle (Figure 5 on page 19)
and slowly pull until you feel resistance. Let the
cord retract a little bit, then pull the cord rapidly to start the engine. One or two pulls usually starts the
DR CHIPPER.
5. As the engine warms up, slowly adjust the Choke to the Run position. Wait until the engine runs
smoothly before each Choke adjustment. For maximum performance, operate the engine with the
Throttle in the FAST position and the CHOKE in RUN position.
Stopping the Engine
1. For Manual Start engines, move the Throttle control lever all the way back to the SLOW (Turtle) position
and then move the ON-OFF rocker switch to the OFF position.
2. For Electric Start engines, move the Throttle control lever all the way back to the SLOW (Turtle) position
and then turn the key to OFF.
3. Remove the Key for safety. The key has a pressure lock that prevents it from vibrating loose during
operation. To remove the Key, push it in and then quickly and firmly pull it out. If the Key becomes
difficult to remove, spray FLUID FILM
®
or a similar non-conductive lubricant into the keyhole.
NOTE: Close the Fuel Shut-Off Valve when transporting or storing the DR 13 HP CHIPPER (Figure 5 on page 19).
NEVER STOP THE ENGINE BY MOVING THE CHOKE LEVER TO THE CHOKE POSITION. THIS COULD
CAUSE AN ENGINE BACKFIRE RESULTING IN ENGINE DAMAGE.
